Obstacle Detection and Alignment Using an Stereo Camera Pair

چکیده
An autonomous mobile robot must face the correspondence or data association problem in order to carry out tasks like place recognition or unknown environment mapping. In order to put into correspondence two maps, most correspondence methods first extract descriptors of salient features from robot sensor data, then matches between features are searched and finally the transformation that relates the maps is estimated from such matches. However, finding explicit matches between features is a challenging and computationally expensive task. In this paper, we propose a new method to align obstacle maps without searching explicit matches between features. The maps are obtained from a stereo pair. Then, we use a bag of features approach to identify putative corresponding maps followed by a Gauss-Newton algorithm to find the transformation that relates both maps. The proposed method is evaluated on a typical office dataset showing good performance.

A Single Camera Stereo System for Obstacle Detection
This paper presents a real-time visual obstacle detection system which is novel in both sensors and algorithms. Single-camera stereo vision is realized by using a set of handily placed mirrors, and the optical and electrical identities of binocular image pair are guaranteed. A software gaze transformation method is presented to produce zero disparities for road surface figures, thus facilities ...

Stereoscopy is a technique used for recording and representing stereoscopic (3D) images. It can create an illusion of depth using two pictures taken at two or more slightly different positions. There are two possible way of taking stereoscopic pictures by using special two-lens stereo cameras or systems with two single-lens cameras joined together. Stereoscopic pictures allow us to calculate th...
